In this topic I will briefly explain the tactics to Rotface, complete with all of the fight's mechanics and the link to a video that will hopefully provide you with a better idea of how to down this boss. I want you all to read this topic well, so that on our next try we may down him. Please be advised that the video provided may not correspond too well with your role in the fight. If you wish to view the fight from the viewpoint you will be in, do a search on YouTube.
PreparationFor this fight it is very important that everyone in the raid knows where to stand and where to move to if Rotface uses a certain ability. The
Main Tank will pick up Rotface and place him in the center of the room, with his back toward the door. The entire raid, save for the
Off-Tank, will stand close behind Rotface, ready to move whenever he uses Slime Spray. Lastly, the
Off-Tank will stand on the edge of the room, circling it counterclockwise and kiting the Big Ooze around the room. Everyone except for the
Off-Tank needs to make sure that they never stand in the Ooze Flood that covers a part of the floor throughout the entire encounter.
This chart explains positioning during the boss fight.
Rotface's AbilitiesSlime Spray - Every now and again Rotface will face a random player and use Slime Spray in that direction. It's a cone-shaped AoE attack that hits everyone in it's range. When Rotface is about to use Slime Spray, the raid needs to quickly circle behind him to avoid the damage.
Mutated Infection - This is the kicker. Mutated Infection is a DoT that damages the affected player for 3900-4100 damage every second for 12 seconds, and reduces healing effects on that player by 50% for the duration of the debuff. Mutated Infection is a
Disease and
can be dispelled.
As soon as the duration of Mutated Infection ends or when it is dispelled, a Small Ooze will spawn. This ooze cannot be taunted and the targeted player will have to kite it toward the
Off-Tank, making sure he is not hit by either his Small Ooze or the Big Ooze kited around by the
Off-Tank.
Fight mechanicsThe fight against Rotface is at base level a tank 'n spank fight. The
Main Tank can stay in one place for the entire encounter and the majority of the raid can just stand behind Rotface to deal damage, only moving to avoid the Slime Spray he casts every now and then.
Once a player is hit with Mutated Infection, the toughest mechanic kicks in. If possible, this disease needs to be dispelled by the healers as quickly as possible. When a Small Ooze spawns, this player needs to kite it around for a bit until a second player is hit with Mutated Infection. Once he also has a Small Ooze on him, the two players need to merge the Oozes together by bringing them within 10 yards of each other. This will create a Big Ooze which the
Off-Tank can and should pick up immediately.
Now, the
Off-Tank will circle the room in counterclockwise direction, making sure he stays well ahead of the Big Ooze. If the tank touches the Big Ooze, he will likely die. Players that get hit with Mutated Infection should quickly look around the room to find the
Off-Tank and run towards him, making sure not to get hit by the Big ooze that's chasing the tank. This will cause the Small Ooze to merge with the Big Ooze.
After five Small Oozes have merged with the Big Ooze, Rotface will emote. Within four seconds, the Big Ooze will Explode and cause massive AoE damage in a 10 yard circle around him. Everyone in the raid must make sure that they're well out of range when this happens. The explosion will also cause a rain of Ooze to come down on the raid, and this can be countered by everyone quickly running to the side of the room until the rain is over.
When all this has happened, the cycle will repeat, starting with 1 Small Ooze, then 2 that need to merge etc.
TIPSDon't run directly into the
Off-Tank. Instead, cross his path at an angle as seen in the chart above. This will make it easier to avoid damage from either the Small or Big Ooze.
Paladins can keep
Hand of Freedom on the
Off-Tank to allow him to run through the Ooze Flood unhindered. This makes a Paladin the perfect choice to
be Off-Tank for this encounter.
